ZANU PF activists. The victim was an MDC alliance polling agent at ward 3 in
St Marys. An eye witness witnessed the abduction and reported that a white
unmarked vehicle was used.
Trends of abductions:
§ The abduction were done by suspected members of the ZNA who were
armed and unidentified men.
§ The abductions happened around midnight.
§ The victims were MDC-A supporters, their families and those perceived
to have been involved in the planning of the 1st of August protests.
§ The victims were assaulted, tortured and threatened with unspecified
actions.
d) Destruction of property - Ten (10) cases of destruction of property were
recorded.
On 01 August, the protesting MDC Alliance supporters and ordinary citizens
reportedly smashed windows of buildings and set on fire two vehicles and a
bus belonging to ZANU PF.
On 02 August, Vending stalls in the CBD and other suburbs such as in
Highfield were destroyed. It is not clear who destroyed the stalls although
vendors interviewed by the Forum team claim the army is responsible. In an
incident verified by the teams on the ground in Lusaka, Highfield, a tuckshop
was destroyed by soldiers and an amount between $200 to $300 was taken
from the victim.
On 17 August, in Chihwai Village ward 17, Mutoko East a victim by the intials
D. C had his house burnt in an alleged politically motivated attack by ZANU
PF supporters. The victim is an MDC- A supporter and was a polling agent in
the just ended harmonised elections. Prior to the alleged attack, the victim
explained that he argued with Cain Mhembere, Peter Kazingizi & Forbes
Karonga on the outcome of the presidential elections, the three are wellknown strong ZANU PF supporters.
On 15 August, ZANU PF youths in ward 5, Chimanimani constituency
reportedly burnt a hut belonging to MDC Alliance activist Daniel Hanyana in
Hot springs Nemutenzi village in Manicaland Province.

e) Harassment and intimidation - Various cases of harassment and
intimidation by ZANU PF supporters, traditional leaders and the military were
