National Registration Regulations, 1977, as amended Form of identity document 7. An identity document shall be issued in form N.R. 2. Classification of residents 8. (1) Subject to the provisions of this section, applicants shall be classified as citizens, nonindigenous African citizens, non-citizen residents or aliens, as the case may be, in accordance with the provisions of the Second Schedule. (2) An applicant shall not be classified as a non-citizen resident unless– (a) he is in possession of a permanent resident permit issued by the Department of Immigration; or (b) in the case of a person who is not an African and who alleges that he entered Rhodesia from Nyasaland or Northern Rhodesia during the subsistence of the former Federation, he satisfies the registration officer that he is lawfully resident in Rhodesia. (3) An applicant shall not be classified as an alien unless he is the holder of a valid travel document and can prove that his entry into Rhodesia was lawful. Codes 9. In completing an identity document for an applicant, the appropriate codes shall be used as follows– (a) to indicate the status of the applicant, in accordance with the provisions of the Second Schedule; (b) to indicate medical information relating to the applicant, in accordance with the provisions of the Third Schedule; (c) to indicate the district in which the applicant is registered and his district of origin, in accordance with the Fourth Schedule: (d) to indicate the personal particulars of the applicant, in accordance with the Fifth Schedule. Surrender of identity documents 10. (1) On the death of the holder of an identity document– (a) it shall be the duty of every person who is required in terms of the Births and Deaths Registration Act [Chapter 30] to report the death of the holder to search for his identity document and to forward the identity document to a registration officer or to inform a registration officer that he has been unable to find the identity document; (b) any person who comes into possession of his identity document shall forthwith forward it to a registration officer. (2) If the holder of an identity document intends to leave Rhodesia for a period of more than twelve months, he shall Surrender his identity document to a registration officer or immigration officer at the port of exit from Rhodesia. (3) A registration officer or immigration officer who receives an identity document in terms of subsection (l) or (2) shall forthwith forward it to the Registrar-General and, if he has received it in terms of subsection (2), shall notify the Registrar-General that the holder of the identity document has left Rhodesia for a period of more than twelve months.
