There is no clean water for drinking and bathing. A source of dirty water is used for bathing. Those interviewed indicated that the dynamite used during blasts produces a dangerous chemical that is deposited in the water. This means the dirty water affects the miners. Despite these terrible working conditions where people dice with death a few of the panners interviewed have high regard for the First Lady for Source of Water for Multiple Purposes allowing people to dig for gold in order to improve their socio-economic status. Gold panners are actually against those who try to enforce laws and regulations on how people should operate at Kitsiyatota. Such authorities are viewed as enemies hence they are labelled as Gamatox. There are banners written “Pasi ne Gamatox.” This is in reference to former Vice President Joice Mujuru and her alleged cabal who wanted the place monitored by police for safety, health and environmental reasons.
