No. 9/2016 PAN-Af'RICAN MINI'RALS UNIVERSITY Of' SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Cap. 25:33 "African Academy of Sciences·· means the organisation or African scientists inaugurated in 1986 in Nairobi, Kenya, to mobilise and strengthen the African scientil1c community through the publication and dissemination of scientific materials and capacity-building in development. research and policy in the sphere of science and technology: "Bursar" means the person holding office as Bursar of the University in terms of section 22; "chairperson of a department"' means a person appointed in terms of the Statutes to be chairperson of a teaching department or head of an institute or centre controlled by the University: "chairperson of the Council" means the person elected in terms of the Statutes to be the Chairperson of the Counci I; "Chancellor" means the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe in his or her capacity as Chancellor of the University in terms of section 9: "Council" means the University Council established in terms of section 12; "clean of faculty" means a person elected by the faculty board in terms of the Statutes: "faculty" means a faculty of the University established in terms of the Statutes; "faculty board" means a faculty board established in terms of the Statutes; "institute" means an institute established in terms of the Statutes: "Librarian" means the person holding office as Librarian of the University in terms of section 23: "mineral science" is the study of Earth processes and their products, and of the effects of geologic and meteoric phenomena on Earth's atmosphere and biosphere; "Minister" means the Minister responsible for Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development or whoever is assigned the administration of this Act; "Nelson Mandela Institution'' or "NMI" is a private, non-governmental organisation incorporated in April, 2004, that is dedicated to bringing excellence in science and engineering to Sub-Saharan Africa; "non-academic staff" means all persons employed by the University who are not members of the academic staff; "ordinance" means an ordinance made by the Council under Statute 23; "Prci-Vicc-Chancellor" means a person holding office as Pro-Vice-Chancellor in terms of section II; "Registrar" means the person holding office as Registrar of the University in terms of section 21: "regulations" means regulations made by the Senate under section 35; "Secretary" means the Secretary for Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development; "Senate" means the Senate established in terms of section 18: "senior administrati\T stair' means the Registrar, the Bursar and such other members of stall as the Council may from time to time determine; "staff" means academic stall, administrative stall. technical stall and workers; "Statutes" means the Statutes or the University set out in the Schedule as may be amended from time to time or replaced in terms or section 33; "Students ·union" means any association or students recognised by the Council as the Students' Union;
