As SADC observes these elections, it encourages the ZEC to conduct its work to the highest professional standard; the political leadership to play an exemplary role in terms of electoral conduct; and the electorate to act conscientiously and honourably. We urge political party leaders and their supporters to strictly observe political tolerance and the spirit of non-violence. I need not remind this august gathering that political violence is symptomatic of political immaturity and has no place in the social and economic progress of any country. The scars left by the events of 2008 should therefore serve as a deterrent. The enormous potential of Zimbabwe's people cannot be held back by the political intolerance of a few individuals. We also urge all political parties to adhere to the national laws and all complaints and grievances through legally established mechanisms for resolving electoral disputes. Distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, We are hopeful that the deployment of our observers will contribute to enhancing the credibility of the overall electoral process; and the various on-going peace-building processes. 11
