ZANU-PF candidate. Of the 19 constituencies that ZANU-PF won with less than 50% of the
vote and the MDC Alliance fielded one candidate there are 11 constituencies that Chamisa
received more votes than Mnangagwa in the presidential election by a margin greater than
ZANU-PF’s victory in the parliamentary election. This suggests for these 12 constituencies
that if there had not been third party candidates for the parliamentary elections then MDC
Alliance candidates would have won these constituencies.

There are 19 constituencies that the MDC Alliance candidate won with less than 50% of the
vote. For 18 of these constituencies Chamisa received more votes than Mnangagwa in the
presidential election. However, for one constituency, Chipinge East constituency in
Manicaland, Mnangagwa received more votes than Chamisa in the presidential election by a
margin greater than MDC Alliance’s victory in the parliamentary election. This suggests that
for this constituency that if there had not been third party candidates for this parliamentary
election then the ZANU-PF candidate would have won this constituency. This would have
been a net swing of 11 seats to MDC Alliance from ZANU-PF.
