ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This manual is the outcome of two years of collaboration between the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) and the Peace Building Network of Zimbabwe (PBNZ) that began in early 2013 and was completed in December 2014. The two partners wish to acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved in the conceptualisation and drafting of the modules as well as the institutional support provided by the IJR and the member organisations that constitute the PBNZ. Special thanks go to the authors of the modules, who often worked enthusiastically into the night during the writing workshops, including those who, for various reasons, were involved in the first workshop but could not continue thereafter. Specifically, the IJR and the PBNZ appreciate the contributions of the following: • the Building Inclusive Societies (BIS) programme at the IJR, whose community healing work in South Africa, led by Kenneth Lukuko, provided material and shared the South African experience; • Chiedza Zororo for coordinating the workshops; • Wellington Mbofana, a Zimbabwean-based IJR fellow who shared his book chapter on community healing during the first workshop; • Retias Makadho for facilitating sessions on traditional approaches to community healing based on his PhD fieldwork; • IJR interns Veleska Langeveltd and Stephen Buchanan-Clarke for editorial support; and • Webster Zambara for editing the manual. Special thanks also go to the funders of the Africa Programme at the IJR for their continued support, notably the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the Danish Embassy in Pretoria, the Austrian Embassy in Pretoria and Investec, whose funding supported the Southern Africa Desk’s activities that led to this project. iv Community Healing: A training manual for Zimbabwe
