challenge or support the policies of the Government or any
political cause.
Section 52 (a) provides as follows:
Every person has the right to bodily and psychological integrity
which includes the right
(a) to freedom from all forms of violence from public or private
sources
7. International Law
Zimbabwe is a State party to a number of international and regional human rights
instruments which create obligations for it to respect, protect and promote the
human rights enshrined therein, which render these instruments also relevant.
7.1.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Article 1 of the UDHR provides that all human beings are born free and
equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience
and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Article 3 of the UDHR provides that everyone has the right to life, liberty
and security of person.
7.2.
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)
7.2.1 Article 7, provides that
“Everyone has the right to liberty and security of person”.
7.3.
African (Banjul) Charter on Human and People’s Rights
Article 6 provides as follows;
“Everyone has the right to liberty and to the security of his person”
Article 28 provides that;
“Every individual shall have the duty to respect and consider his fellow
beings without discrimination, and to maintain relations aimed at promoting,
safeguarding and reinforcing mutual respect and tolerance.”
