(a) forthwith destroy any identity document forwarded to him which was received by the
registration officer in terms of subsection (l);
(b) retain for a period of two years any identity document forwarded to him which was
received by the registration officer or immigration officer in terms of sub-section (2)
and shall thereafter destroy such document unless it has been reclaimed by the person
to whom it was issued.
Application for duplicate identity document
10A. (1) An application for the issue of a duplicate identity document to replace one which
has been lost or mutilated shall be made in writing to a registration officer, and, if waiver of any
portion of the appropriate fee is sought in terms of the proviso to subsection (1) of section 13,
shall be supported by a statement of the circumstances of the loss or mutilation or the identity
document and of the financial position of the applicant.
(2) Where an application in terms of subsection (1) concerns an identity document which
has been mutilated, that identity document shall be surrendered to the registration officer.

10B. A registered person whose identity document contains an error shall–
(a) apply to the Registrar-General or a registration officer for the correction of the error;
and
(b) produce such documents and provide such information in relation to the error as may
be required by the Registrar-General or registration officer, as the case may be; and
(c) surrender the identity document to the Registrar-General or registration officer, as the
case may be, for the issue of a replacement identity document.
Notification of changes in registered particulars
10C. (1) A registered person whose forename or surname appearing on his identity
document is subsequently changed, shall within one month after the change, give to the
Registrar-General or a registration officer written notification of the change, and shall–
(a) in the case of a change of name by marriage or notarial deed, produce a copy of the
relevant marriage certificate or notarial deed;
(b) in the case of a change of name other than by a change referred to in paragraph (a),
provide such information in relation thereto as may be required by the RegistrarGeneral or registration officer, as the case may be.
(2) Where any change other than a change referred to in subsection (1) occurs in any
particulars appearing on an identity document, the holder shall within one month after the
change, give to the Registrar-General or a registration officer written notification of the change,
and shall produce such documents and provide such information in relation thereto as may be
required by the Registrar-General or registration officer, as the case may be.
(3) Where a registered person wishes additional medical information to be included on his
identity document, he shall make written application therefore to the Registrar-General or a
registration officer, and shall produce such documents and provide such information in relation
thereto as may be required by the Registrar-General or registration officer, as the case may be.
