This report considers the actual period of voting and the first one hundred days thereafter.

This monograph is based on detailed observation of the election petitions held in the High Court of Zimbabwe, as well as testimonies available from victims seen during the General Election and the subsequent bye-elections. A team of researchers attended all the court hearings, making notes of all proceedings, as well as studying the case notes held by the AMANI Trust and the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum.

Heal Zimbabwe through its resident human rights monitors in all the country’s 10 provinces monitored the environment during the mobile voter registration exercise. This was done with the objective of monitoring the environment and report on any cases of human rights violations as well as making referrals where necessary for redress.

The Forum documented violations relating to economic, social and cultural rights. The right to education continues to be violated by school authorities that turn children away over non-payment of school fees and levies.

The report captures how the NTJWG is shocked at the the horrific developments since 14 January.There were gross violations of Human rights as well as crimes against humanity.

This is the first report by the consortium which covers the period 1 to 9 August 2018. A total of 199 violations were documented from 1 to 9 August 2018.

In January 2018, new victims of Organised Violence and Torture (OVT) were reported and documented from across the country. This figure includes seven incidents of infringement of political rights, five incidences of harassment and intimidation, three cases of assault and three incidences of denial of the right to food.

The month of April also witnessed increasing tensions between the government and its employees with the government failing to respond to the concerns of workers in the public sector. This led to another strike by nurses, which compromised the right to health care. The March 2018 strike by doctors was followed by a nurse’s strike on 16th of April. Vice President Chiwenga responded by firing all striking nurses violating section 65 (2) (3) of the Constitution, which recognises the right of all employees to engage in collective bargaining with the exception of the security service.
