FIGURE 3 Monthly Comparison of violations: Human Rights Forum and Zimbabwe Peace Project, 2008 As can be seen from Figure 3, the trends are similar, although the magnitudes are different, with the ZPP reporting many more violations than the Human Rights Forum. Both data sets show a marked increase in reports of gross human rights violations from March to June 2008, and thereafter a decline. Another comparison is possible with the data from the Solidarity Peace Trust, but only for the months from April to June. 7 000 6 000 5 000 4 000 3 000 2 000 1 000 0 August July June May April March February January No. of violations (ZPP) No. of violations (Forum) TABLE 23 Frequency of violations [Number & %] for April, May, & June 2008: Zimbabwe Peace Project, Human Rights Forum, & Solidarity Peace Trust77 APRIL MAY JUNE TOTAL Zimbabwe Peace Project 4375 [33%] 6283 [47%] 3730 [28%] 14388 Human Rights Forum 3168 [51%] 1973 [32%] 1060 [17%] 6201 Solidarity Peace Trust 907 [27%] 1364 [41%] 1049 [32%] 3320 There is greater convergence – as percentages - between the data from the Zimbabwe Peace Project and the Solidarity Peace Trust than there is between the Human Rights Forum and the other two, but all of these organizations nonetheless report very high numbers of violations during these three months. Thus, all organizations support the view that the period leading up to the Presidential run-off was excessively violent. The distribution of reports per Province is generally similar between the data sets from the Human Rights Forum and the Zimbabwe Peace Project [see Table 24], but, although correlated, this was not significant [0.42; p=<0.05]. The difference lies in the lack of reports to the Human Rights Forum, which is turn is due to the wider coverage of the country by the Zimbabwe Peace Project. 77 Page 28 ZPP (2008), POST RUN-OFF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION REPORT NO.4.
