PART 1: RIGHTS AND DUTIES CHAPTER ONE: RIGHTS AND WELFARE OF THE CHILD Ar cle 1 Your country is supposed to know the rights, freedoms and du es in this Charter and will adopt laws these rights. Anything that is inconsistent with these rights is discouraged. Ar cle 2 A child means every human being below the age of 18 years. Ar cle 3 Every child should be allowed to enjoy the rights and freedoms in this Charter, regardless of his or her status. Ar cle 4 Every child has the right to be heard. Ar cle 5 Every child has a right to live. Ar cle 6 Every child has the right to birth registra on. Ar cle 7 Every child who is has the right to communicate freely. Ar cle 8 Every child has the right to freedom of associa on in onformity with the law. Ar cle 9 Every child has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. Ar cle 10 Children have a right to privacy. Ar cle 11 Every child has the right to an educa on and overnments should take special measures to ensure equal access to educa on for all sec ons of theommunity. Ar cle 12 Children have a right to play and to par cip te fully in culturral and ar s c e. Ar cle 13 Every child who is mentally or physically disabled has the right to special protec on o ensurre ac ve par c ipa on in t ommunity. Ar cle 14 Every child has the right to health including the provision of nutri ous ood and safe drinking water, as well as adequate health care. Ar cle 15 Children should be protected from all forms of economic abuse and child labour. Ar cle 16 Children should be protected from all forms of torture, inhuman or degrading treatment including sexual abuse. Ar cle 17 Every child accused or found guilty of having broken the law should receive special treatment, those imprisoned should not be mistreated. Ar cle 18 Every child has the right to family care and protec on. Ar cle 19 Children have the right to live with their parents and any separa on should be in the child’s best interest. Ar cle 20 The best interests of the child is paramount in every mater concerning the child.
