ActionAid International Southern Africa Partnership Programme (SAPP-Zimbabwe) recorded roughly the same proportion receiving support from relatives (about 20%, see Appendix 6.10). 3.6 Assistance being received by affected areas Of those that reported receiving assistance (49%) from the various sources, the following categories are the nature of assistance being received; food (18%), shelter (15%), monetary (8%), education for children (7%), relocation (5%), psycho-social support (5%) and legal help (4%). For disaggregated data by area see Appendix 6.11. This clearly suggests that there are major gaps in the support that is being offered to the communities. Notable assistance being given fell into the food and shelter groups. Other than that other forms of assistance being received in minimal, hardly surpassing 10%. No difference was noted for all vulnerable groups that were surveyed with the following results; Food Compensation Relocation Education Legal help Financial Psycho-social support Female headed HHs Child headed HHs Elderly headed HHs HH hosting orphans HH hosting chronically ill persons HH hosting mentally/physically challenged HH with children not attending school Shelter Table 11: Assistance received by vulnerable categories Assistance being received proportions (%) Category 18 27 14 17 18 19 19 20 21 25 4 8 4 4 4 4 6 4 3 4 7 12 7 9 8 8 8 3 4 4 7 8 8 8 9 9 11 7 9 13 21 23 5 4 7 5 9 14 19 20 5 4 9 4 7 11 - little assistance is being offered to vulnerable groups; - Shelter and food are the major areas of support that is being received, however from the earlier section it is important to note that this is mainly from relative’s support. Continued support for these households is questionable with the current difficulties the general public in Zimbabwe is facing. Both shelter and food main sources from relative’s support and to a lesser extent attributed to CBOs. Zimbabwe Operation Murambatsvina/Restore Order National Survey Report 28
