30th Anniversary The Legal Resources Foundation Trust was registered on 10 July 1984 and the organisation opened its first office in Harare in 1985, so 2014/15 has been a special milestone for the LRF: “30 years of promoting human rights and access to justice”. The five provincial centres each organised celebratory events to honour the achievement and these were attended by prominent personalities and professionals from the legal fraternity in those communities. LRF Bulawayo kicked off in August 2014 when Mr Joseph James, LRF Trustee and a past president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, gave the keynote address in which he thanked the visionaries who founded the organisation 30 years ago for their “insight and progressive thoughts and ideas”, describing them as torchbearers. “It was realised that people who knew the law were more likely to want to use the law, than when they are unaware of what the law says,” he pointed out. LRF in Harare, Gweru and Mutare all took the opportunity to showcase achievements over the past 30 years, heightening the visibility of LRF, and LRF Masvingo arranged to plant 30 trees around the city to represent the 30 years the organisation had been in existence.
