The broad and cross-cutting nature of LRF’s programmes means that the organisation is able to make a
significant contribution to the promotion and protection of people’s rights; raising awareness of these rights
and responsibilities and enhancing their capacity to claim redress against any infringements; capacitating
service delivery agencies; providing essential information tools for the justice delivery system, researching on
and advocating for policy reform where needed. The continual demand for our services from the beneficiaries
underlines the importance of setting priorities and collaborating with other players to provide broad-based
support and avoiding duplication and a waste of the limited resources of the nation. The Ministry of Justice,
Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has shown interest in expanding the LRF model of paralegal training and
services, providing legal advice and assistance to people where they live and work so that access to justice
for all can become an attained reality.
The body of this annual report provides an overview of the LRF’s achievements in 2013/14. As Chairman
I am confident that the organisation will continue to strive to be relevant to the needs of the people and
effective in its delivery for years to come. There is space in the not too distant future for the LRF to extend
its tentacles to other sub-regional jurisdictions and transform itself into a truly regional organisation serving
and delivering on similar community needs. This forms part of the bright vision for the organisation and its
future growth and all this is made possible by the energy levels, the passion and capabilities reposed in the
management and staff complement of the LRF under the apt leadership and guidance of a dynamic and
ever-evolving Board.
I wish to thank my fellow Trustees and colleagues on the Board for their support and commend the sterling
work of the management and staff of the organisation for making their individual and collective contribution
to the success of LRF, what it is today and its accomplishments over its 30 year life history. With such a strong
vision, the LRF’s future is bright.
