Radio and Television
The LRF has participated in ZBC radio programmes and one ZTV series on sexual offences, which has
not yet been aired. The provincial centres began building relations with community radios and a meeting
was held with the umbrella body, the Zimbabwe Association of Community Radio Stations (ZACRAS),
which has a membership of fourteen. The main focus was on community-based advocacy and lobbying.
These stations are not allowed to broadcast but they distribute recorded programmes on CDs to commuter
omnibus operators to play for their passengers. The LRF has provided material for them, notably on the
Declaration of Rights, with emphasis on changes in the new Constitution, the legality of police roadblocks,
domestic violence, sexual offences, marriage and divorce, workers’ rights, issues of sexual harassment in the
workplace and corporal punishment in schools.
Although there have not as yet been verifiable instances of people approaching the LRF as a result of any
programme they listened to, these are methods of reaching beyond the geographical boundaries of the
fixed offices.
