National Registration Regulations, 1977
IT is hereby notified that the Minister of Internal Affairs has, in terms of section 12 of the
National Registration Act, 1976, made the following regulations:–
Title
1. These regulations may be cited as the National Registration Regulations, 1977.
Interpretation of terms
2. In these regulations–
"applicant" means an applicant for registration;
"citizen" means a citizen of Rhodesia;
"customs officer" means a person who is an officer as defined in section 2 of the Customs
and Excise Act [Chapter 177];
"form" means the appropriate form set out in the First Schedule;
"immigration officer" means a person who is an immigration officer as defined in section 2
of the Immigration Act [Chapter 27];
"indigenous African" means an African who is descended, through the male line, from a
member of one of the tribes ordinarily resident in Rhodesia and who was–
(a)
born in Rhodesia; or
(b)
born outside Rhodesia, his father being at the time of birth domiciled in
Rhodesia;
“ non-indigenous African" means an African who is not an indigenous African and who(a)
was born in Rhodesia; or
(b)
is a citizen of Rhodesia.
Prescribed age
3. The age prescribed for the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of "resident" in
section 2 of the Act shall be sixteen years.
