years respectively.
Only three countries have the age of consent above 19 years - Niue (19), South Korea
(20) and Bahrain (21).
There are 13 nations which do not have a legal age of consent and people in these
countries can only engage in sexual activities if they are married. These countries
have a predominantly Islamic population, situated in the Arab nations of North
Africa, the Middle East, as well as South Asia.
The age of consent does not necessarily follow regional patterns. Each region may
have countries with disparately different ages of consent. The exception is the Arab
world, particularly in the Middle East, where a significant number of countries in that
