The Diaspora
Twelve out of 33 respondents reported that somebody in their family was in the diaspora,
while of these, three reported more than one family member out of the country. However, not
a single respondent considered this a source of income for themselves, as remittances were
reported as never having been received. One respondent reported having gone into the
diaspora himself, but of having returned after failing to get work. These findings confirm
previous findings of SPT, that people with few formal skills and without established networks
find it difficult to get decent remuneration in the diaspora, and seldom send remittances back.

seen little brought back to families left behind.
