prayer breakfast gatherings, national days of prayer, street marches and other
open meetings. The objective of these activities is to bring visibility to the
national reconciliation process, and to invite support from the public who may not
be aware of the initiative. Joint declarations of commitment to reconciliation
initiatives will be made from time to time. The joint declarations may take the
form of confessions where the people repent of past negative attitudes, words and
actions that have fostered hatred and divisions within and among our traditions.
7.5.3 Use of Printed Material
The church will not ignore the power of the pen and visual aids. Fliers, pamphlets,
notices billboards and programmes on radio and Television will be utilized to
promote peace and reconciliation. .
7.5.4 Truth and Justice Commission
The truth must be told in order to heal the wounds. Many people are hurting and
are raising questions and need to know what happened to their loved ones. They
need to know why and who performed brutal actions against their communities or
their sons and daughters. In this regard we believe that as part of the healing
process the nation should explore the possibility of setting up a Truth and Justice
Commission in collaboration with the Church and civil society as a whole to
monitor the process and receive testimonies from the public. Coming to terms
with the truth can be a painful experience, but as a nation we have to go through it
as a process towards the Zimbabwe we want.
