government and cabinet is far below the 50%.8 This is exacerbated by a lack of
legislation to compel political parties to comply with constitutional provisions and to
ensure implementation of the parity principle in drawing up party lists creates a gap
for promotion and of equal access to leadership and decision making by women.
We therefore appeal to the Commission to urge the Government of Zimbabwe to:
a. Investigate all allegations of human rights violations, prosecute and punish
those responsible and bring justice to victims;
b. Realign all domestic legislation with the Constitution and fully implement the
Constitution;
c. Consider implementation of the gender parity principle in the appointment of
senior government positions in line with the Constitutional provisions; and,
d. Fulfill its obligations under the Charter, in order to ensure the enjoyment of all
human rights by its citizens.
