ACT
To put the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission into operation;
to confer additional jurisdiction on the Commission, including its
investigative powers; to provide for the terms of office, conditions
of service, qualifications and vacation of office of Members of the
National Peace and Reconciliation Commission and the appointment
of the Executive Secretary; and to provide for matters connected with
or incidental to the foregoing.
WIIEREAS sections 251 to 253 of the Constitution provide
as follows:
"251 Establishment and composition of National Peace and
Reco n ci I i ati on Co mmr.ssion
(1) For a period of ten yea.rs after the effective date, there is a commission
to be known as thz National Peace and Reconciliation Commission consisting of-
(a)
a chairperson appointed by the President after consultalion with the
Judicial Service Commission and the Comndttee on Standing Rules
ard Orders: and
(b)
eight other mentbers appoirxedby tfu President.fromalist of rnt.fewer
than twelve nominees submitted by the Comndttee on Standing Rules
and Orders.
(2) The chnirperson of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission
ntust be a person who has been qualified.for at least seven yectrs to prectise as a
le gal
practitinner in Zimbabwe.
