Conducting yourself at your place
of residence
• You are advised not to use your
accommodation for the purposes of sex
work, or same sex conduct. You may never
know who is watching or monitoring you.
• A lways carry your valuables with you, or
lock them in the lockable safes that are
provided at some hotels.
• You are free to invite visitors depending
on the rules of your place of residence.
However it is advised not to hold
clandestine meetings or gatherings, as
these are illegal. You are also advised not
to hold or be involved in demonstrations
or public protests which have not been
cleared by the police, as they are illegal.
Health
Health services in Zimbabwe are poor and travellers should ensure
that they have comprehensive travel insurance that will enable them
to access adequate healthcare services, including possible medical
evacuations. If you are not feeling well and hesitant to visit a public
hospital for fear of victimization, you may contact the GALZ or SRC
hotline below for referral doctors.
Some areas in Zimbabwe outside Harare are prone to malaria. You are
advised to take anti-malaria medication before you travel to any place
outside Harare
Transport
From the airport, you can hire a meter taxi/cab which costs an average
of US$25-00 into the city centre. Preferably, if you do not mind the
hustle, you can board a commuter omnibus commonly referred to as
“makombi” from outside the airport to the city centre for US$0.50.
Charges for a meter taxi/cab within the Central Business District (CBD)
are an average US$3-00.

You are advised that Zimbabwe imposes heavy penalties for the use or
possession of drugs even in very small quantities.
Crime
Serious crime is not common in Zimbabwe,
although petty crimes like muggings,
pickpocketing and bag snatching are
common in over crowded places. Ensure that
your personal belongs and travel documents
are secure at all the times.
Languages
Possession of illegal drugs like cannabis and heroin, as well as the
recreational use of prescription drugs such as histalix and pethidine
can attract long jail sentences.
If you are on prescription drugs, it is recommended to move around
with your prescription. If you are taking over the counter medications
you might also want to verify if the drugs are legal in Zimbabwe.
If you have personal trouble with drug addiction you should consider
carefully the implications of travelling to Zimbabwe.
