We saw ourselves as mere enablers of the justice that the people of Zimbabwe themselves wanted to see. Our ultimate reward will be a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe. We trust that the Government and the people of Zimbabwe will find the contents of our report to be useful as they march forward along the journey of building peace, reconciliation, justice and deepening accountability. On behalf of my fellow Commissioners and myself, I take this opportunity to once more express our deepest heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. A special word of gratitude goes to all the witnesses that came forward and the people of Zimbabwe in general for cooperating with us. Many had to relive their misery of pain and loss in the quest to help the Commission fulfil its purpose, being to establish the truth. Without their cooperation, our work would have been much harder. We would like to thank the Secretariat under the leadership of Mrs. V. Mabiza the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and the media for their contribution to the success of the work of the Commission. Let the best among the people of Zimbabwe be filled with passionate intensity of patriotism for a brighter future. Let the healing process begin. It does not matter how slowly you go, do not stop. …………………………………… Kgalema Motlanthe Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the 1st of August 2018 PostElection Violence in Zimbabwe. iv
