names of one of the tenants. The tenant who was being called out went
to open the door. He then saw that the whole yard was full of armed
uniformed members of the Zimbabwe National Army (soldiers) and the
Zimbabwe Police Service (police) who forcefully entered the house.
Some of the soldiers ordered the complainant to lie down outside on
the ground. It had been raining so there were muddy puddles all over
the yard. While on the ground he was assaulted with baton sticks and
the backs of AK 47 rifles. Meanwhile, those who entered into the house
knocked on every door and ordered all the men who were inside to go
outside and lie down on the ground. It was reported that they were all
thoroughly beaten with baton sticks by uniformed forces. The wives of
2 of those assaulted were also beaten with baton sticks because they
had taken long to open their doors.
5.1.5. The Commission then heard information that Councillor Sithole had
been abducted on the night of the 15 th of January 2019 disturbances.
At the Councillor’s house, his children who were at the house including
a little girl as young as approximately 3 years old could narrate what
had happened to their father. They were 4 adult males at the
Councillor’s house. One (1) of them was the Councillor’s son while the
other three (3) were relatives of the Councillor who stay at the
homestead. There were also 3 young girls and 1 boy who were said to
be the Councillor’s children. It was highlighted that their mother had
gone to Harare Central Police to see their father (the Councillor who
had been abducted the night before). A group discussion was held with
the above mentioned people who revealed that armed soldiers and
policemen had approached the homestead at around 10pm in the night
and had forced entry into the girls’ bedroom waking up the children.
When they realized that they had targeted the wrong door, they went
on to proceed to another bedroom where the Councillor was sleeping
with his wife. They then asked the Councillor to lie down on the ground
